How to Play RuneScape Private Servers (RSPS)

A guide on how to play a RuneScape Private Server

RuneScape Private Servers, also known as RSPS, have been around nearly as long as RuneScape itself has. Many players choose to play RSPS instead of RuneScape as they find it more enjoyable, and some simply do not have the time to dedicate to RuneScape to obtain the levels and items that they desire, so RSPS provides them with more entertainment.

For players who are unfamiliar with RSPS and are wary of them, weve outlined several tips on how to get started.

Why play RSPS?

There are many reasons to play RSPS instead of RuneScape, including:

  • No membership fees (on most, if not all servers)
  • Faster experience rates
  • Faster drop rates
  • Smaller, more tight-knit community
  • Easier to rank on the Hiscores
  • Custom features (these can range from simple RuneScape mini-games, to fully custom servers with guns and vehicles, which are less common.)

Different types of RSPS:

The main categories of RSPS are as follows:

  • Oldschool servers (2007 RuneScape / OSRS)
  • Pre-EOC servers (2011 RuneScape)
  • RS3 Servers
  • Custom servers (typically a mix of the above categories)

Which RSPS is the best?

As of the writing of this article, these are the largest and best private servers:

  1. Alora (OldSchool, active since 2016)
  2. Ikov (Pre-EOC, active since 2019)
  3. RoatPKz (OldSchool PK, active since 2015)
  4. RuneWild (OldSchool PK, active since 2018)
  5. RuneX (OldSchool, active since 2017)

Are RSPS safe to play on?

It is generally safe to play on the largest and oldest private servers, as they are trusted by many players and if there were any risk of playing there would not be thousands of players on these servers.

With that being said, there are a few things you should do to keep yourself safe while playing RSPS:

  1. Only play the largest servers (top 5 preferably)
  2. Play on RSPS that have been around longer than 1 year
  3. Do not use the same password that you use on RuneScape or other communities (best to use a completely unique password)
  4. Do not use the same username that you use on RuneScape
  5. Do not download any third-party applications such as bots, autoclickers, etc.

If you follow these rules, you will have no problem playing RSPS.

Have fun!
